This collection contains a photocopy of Michael J. Stolee's journal written during his travels as an European Commissioner for the National Lutheran Council in 1920. Also included is a transcription (1998) of the journal prepared by Stolee's grandson, Michael Joseph Stolee, in 1998. The journal contains discussion of the situation and needs of Lutheran churches and their congregations in and visits to Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and France. It also describes Stolee's meetings with Lutheran church leaders, government officials, and other European Commissioners. Stolee devotes many paragraphs to the poor physical condition of John A. Morehead, European Commission head. The fate of the original copy of the journal is unknown. It is also is unclear whether the photocopy of the journal is. Complete.

Michael J. Stolee (1871-1946), a professor of theology at United Church Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota, and its successor Luther Theological Seminary, served on the Commission for France of the National Lutheran Commission for Soldiers' and Sailors' Welfare.
